CONCERN HOUSING INTRODUCES CYCLONE BAGELS

On October 19, 2023 Concern was joined by supporters and staff to celebrate the Construction Kick Off of Cyclone Bagels, located on the ground floor of Surf Vets Place, a 135-unit residential building for veterans and low-income families.  The new bagel shop, which is expected to open in 2024, will employ veterans who have experienced homelessness and provide them high-quality job training services.

Cyclone Bagels will provide supportive employment opportunities, offering training in food preparation, health and safety, commercial kitchen, and financial management skills.  Priority hiring will be given to residents of Surf Vets Place and is a part of the broader continuum of care that supportive housing provides to vulnerable New Yorkers.  Cyclone Bagels will enhance the neighborhood, create jobs and address the need for a fresh, healthy and affordable food option in Coney Island.

Both Surf Vets Place and Cyclone Bagels were designed by the SBJ Group,.  This project would not have been possible without the support of the SBJ Group, BYOB Bagels, Commissioner James Hendon and Penta Restoration.
