Citrix Instructions

Concern for Independent Living

 

 

 

A. Minimum System Requirements.

 

In order to use Citrix, your computer will need to meet the minimum system requirements:

- Operating System:  Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Mac OS X 10.5

- Web Browser:        Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) or Mozilla Firefox 3

 

 

B. Add to Trusted Sites.

 

B1. In IE7, look at the menu toolbar and click on Tools à Internet Options.

 

 

B2. Click on the Security tab, click on Trusted sites, then click on the Sites button.

 

 


B3. Enter https://citrix.concernhousing.net in the field under “Add this website to the zone,” then click on the Add button.

 

 

B4. Once you have added this website, click on the Close button to continue.

 

 


B5. You are now back to the Internet Options properties window.  Click on the OK button on the bottom of the properties window to close it.

 

 

 


C. Pop-up Blocker Settings.

 

C1. From the IE7 toolbar, click Tools à Pop-up Blocker à Pop-up Blocker Settings.

 

 

C2. In the Exceptions section, enter *.concernhousing.net in the field under “Address of website to allow,” then click on the Add button.

 

 

C3. Once you have added this address, click on the Close button to continue.

 

 

 


D. How to Connect to Citrix.

 

D1. Open IE7 and go to the web address https://citrix.concernhousing.net or visit http://www.concernhousing.org “Staff Only” section and click on the link.

 

 

D2. In the Citrix Welcome Screen, enter your normal Concern Domain login username and password.  Click on the Log On button to login.

 

 

 

D3. When prompted to download the Citrix plugin, check the box next to “By selecting the checkbox…” and then click Download to begin downloading the plugin.

 

 


D4. In the following security warning window, click Run to continue.

 

 

D5. Once the installer has been downloaded, click Run to begin installing the Citrix plugin.

 

 

D6. Click Close once the installation has been completed.

 

 


E. Citrix Portal.

 

In the Citrix portal (main screen), you will see 3 tabs on the upper left side:

Applications | Messages | Preferences

 

 

E1. Applications Tab:  The Applications tab will list the different Citrix published applications that you can use.  Depending on your user rights, you may have access to more or less published applications.

 

 

 

E2. Messages Tab:  The Messages tab is for displaying application or plugin errors that might occur.

 

 

E3. Preferences Tab:  Please be advised: Do NOT change any settings in the Preferences tab.  This will prevent problems caused by incorrect or incompatible settings.

 


In the Citrix portal, you will see 3 links on the upper right side:

Log Off | Reconnect | Disconnect

 

 

 

E4. Log Off:  Click Log Off to log out of the Citrix portal and close all running applications.

 

E5. Reconnect:  If you clicked on Disconnect while you had Citrix applications running, then clicking on Reconnect will resume these applications automatically the next time you login.

 

E6. Disconnect:  Click Disconnect to pause any Citrix applications that are running.  (This will not close the applications.)  Any paused applications may be resumed later on by clicking on Reconnect.

 

E7. Select ViewSelect View allows you to change how the Citrix published applications are displayed.  The different layouts are Icons, Details, List, Tree (default), and Groups.

 

 


F. Citrix Published Applications.

 

F1. Control Panel: Under the Applications tab, click Control Panel – this will expand the folder and display Printers.

 

     

 

Both printers at Concern and at your present location will be available.

 

F2. Internet Explorer:  Click Internet Explorer folder to expand it and display the Internet Explorer browser.

 

 

Internet Explorer browser will allow access to Intranet, Precision Care, Forms, e-mail, and any other work-based applications in use at Concern.

 

Note:  Non-work-related websites (i.e. www.yahoo.com) are best viewed through your own web browser on your computer, not through the Citrix published Internet Explorer browser.

 

F3. Microsoft Office 2007:  Click Microsoft Office 2007 folder to expand it and display the available Office applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word.

 

 

F4. Remote Desktop:  Click Remote Desktop folder to expand it and display the Remote Desktop client.  This application will allow you to remotely access your desktop computer at Concern.

 

In order to use Remote Desktop, you will need to enter the following information:

- Computer:   (name of your computer; example: office-13)

- User name: (your normal Concern login in the format concern\username)

- Password:   (this is your normal Concern password)

 

F5. Shares:  Click Shares folder to expand it and display and give access to the O: Drive (exchange) and Q: Drive (personal).

 

 

Note:  If you wish to save files to your own local computer or USB flash drive, then click the drop-down arrow in the “Address” toolbar of Explorer to browse your local computer drives.

 


F6. Nitro PDF:  Click the Nitro PDF published application to open, create, and modify PDF files and forms.

 

 

 

 

IMPORTANT:  Please save your work periodically when using a published application.  When you’re done, close each running published application and then click Log Off.  This will prevent losing any work that you have done.
